Personal Review - 04 January 2001:
Now, you're wondering, why in the world would somebody from Baltimore
be reviewing a restaurant nearly 6 hrs drive away in West Virginia.
It was that memorable! We were on a trip looking for a vacation
home when we happened to stop in Ripley, WV and went over to
the nearby shopping plaza for dinner. There weren't a lot of people
there, so we got great service. And, surprisingly, being raised in
Southern California on some of the best of Mexican food, this restaurant was
far and away the best we had ever had! I can't tell you exactly what
we had because the trip was about 2-1/2 years ago. But what we had
was great. It was so good, we went back the next night for a repeat
performance!
Finding a great Mexican Restaurant in West Virginia was not something I would have expected in my wildest dreams. But here it was. Turns out, our waiter's in-law owns another in Tennessee, and our waiter was from Long Beach, California...just down the street from where my wife grew up. They were practically neighbors. Needless to say, both evenings turned into 'old home week' stories. Great service, great conversation, absolutely the best food and drink...along with the ever popular and necessary authentic dessert, sopapillas. What more could a person ask? Reasonable prices? Got that too. We didn't end up buying property out there, but if we're ever in the area again, you can bet we'll stop in for a bite and a good visit.
