Personal Review:
After our favorite in Frederick (Red River) changed to the less favorable
Famous Daves, we tried another restaurant right down the road, the Mexican
restaurant, Casa Rico. I've been eyeing this one for awhile. We stopped in
on one of our frequent trips between Baltimore and West Virginia for dinner.
Not a fancy restaurant, and rooms are not separated from the bar (so smoke
can be an issue), but adequate. The service was a bit iffy, even though
lots of people seemed to be busily running about, so the service was a
little slow, and the noise level was higher that we would have liked (music),
but the food was pretty good. The meat used is ground beef
instead of the better and more traditional (out West anyway) shredded
beef. Portions were plentiful. So much so that we had trouble finishing.
Despite that, when I see a Mexican restuarant with Sopapillas on the menu,
I've got to try them. It isn't often one sees this dessert...a staple in
Southwest establishments. These Sopapillas were about as close to truely
authentic as I've found in Maryland. Prices were very reasonable overall.
Perhaps this wasn't the best Mexican around, but it was good enough that we
might consider stopping in again sometime...certainly better than wasting our
time at Famous Dave's again.
