Finishing Up

I finished up UploadPAR by cleaning up the code and committing it. I made some changes to the form as well. After that, I tested the PAR on the Mac to verify that the spell checker works in Firefox. The I turned to testing the ldap phonebook to plam problem on a mac. It looks like Macs don't recognize comma separated files, so I'm modifying the code to produce a tab delimited file instead.

Finished with Packdb

So I did everything I mentioned yesterday and now packdb is ready to be tested. So I've moved back to the ldap phonebook problem.

More of Less Working

The Palm phonebook downloads correctly into both Palm Desktop and Outlook. There are still a few minor annoyances like capitalization. I'll try to adress them and finish this out tomorrow.

Palm Problem

I spent the day rewriting the code to download the phonebook from LDAP for Palm or Outlook.

Miscelany

I added debugging code to bouncefile to detect its bug, but since the password I have for happy is out of date, I wasn't able to install it for test. I talked with Greg some about moving the directories to the top level. I was asked to check out slappy4 after a disk was replaced. LDAP seemed fine. I started looking at the Palm phonebook problem again, my longest running problem. And Dan tells me LWP is installed on the monsters, so I will move the zope pack script over there tomorrow.

Back to Palm

I've gone back to working on th Palm phonebook problem. I got the bright idea of exporting the contacts from both Outlook and Palm Desktop (so far Windows only) to see what they look like. I determined that Outlook requires a header line with the field names, while Palm Organizer doesn't want it. Both quote non-null fields and end records with a "\r\n" pair. Fixing the code should be not be that difficult.

Packdb

I checked the phonebook to make sure it runs as a cron job. And I started work on the script to pack the Zope database.

Phonebook

I got an email from Robin saying the alternate phone number in the phonebook was messed up. I looked at my phonebook report and saw that I had forgotten to update it for the alt phone fix, so I did the update and everything was fine. After that, I revisited the bestsearches.pl script and revised the hash inversion code. The fix wasn't needed for the current problem, but since the code will likely be used again, I thought I should make the change before the idea slipped away. Lat in the afternoon I got handed a problem with the squid redirect script. I'll look at that tomorrow.

Stuff

I continued reviewing the squid documentation, which I guess will be useful some day, but wasn't useful today because we decided not to modify the squid configuration files. I wrote up the installation procedure for zope and zeo and put it on the wiki. I changed the footer in the phonebook report generated from ldap to remove references to Laurel and Goddard. And I attended the kickoff meeting of the Staff Computing Project committee.

Today's Work

I stated looking at the Palm phonebook problem again. And I modified (but didn't test) trimfile to meet Lynn's new requirements.
