In the morning I looked for problems with ldap, without success. It
was a problem with the dns server. The odd thing was, we couldn't find
the problem with nslookup. So I need to find a better way to detect
nslookup problems. We also had a problem with email for Dan
Bobrowsky. It turned out to be a problem with duplicate ldap records:
one under people and one under opo/origins.

I worked on the mhonarc "glue" script, which passes the mail message
from majordomo to mhonarc. It checks for the directory that it writes
its output to and if the directory is not found, it does the mhonarc
initialization.

I did more work on MhonArc and finally got it to work with
majordomo. Things look good, but the script will need to be revised to
automatically initialize mhonarc.

Worked at getting MhonArc working with Majordomo. The latest problem
is that the command line is too long. I wrote a Perl script to
generate the index page for the mailing lists. It uses themer and it's
neat how simple that makes the code (about 90 lines.) I'm debugging it
and there's a problem with the filehandle:

Can't use string ("FileHandle") as a symbol ref while "strict refs" in
use.

Bobby Edwards reported that ext couldn't see a new user. It turned out
they were added as an affiliate.

I worked with Otto at modifying the /etc/aliases file so that it would
work with MHonArc.

Today I looked at the view expired bug. It turned out to be
infuriatingly "phase of the moon" dependent. That is, sometimes view
expired works properly and other times it doesn't. I finally got it to
produce consistently correct results, but I can't be sure it will
always work. I asked Mike Wiggs to retest. After that, I looked at the
MHonArc documentation for its configuration files.

I've set up mhonarc on happy except for changing the /etc/aliases file
(the most important change). I thought I'd ask Otto if it's ok before
I change the aliases file. I also got Mike Watterson to set up a soft
link on kahuna to happy. We still need to determine if the cron job
that will copy the files over to cws will follow soft links. Also,
configuring the look and feel of the html is a big deal. It's done via
the resource file and there's a lot of variables to twidle with. So I
will leave that part until after I've got it working.

I spent the day researching how to hook up MhonArc to majordomo. I
briefly tried to set up the phone book so that the footer was single
spaced, but had no luck.

In the morning a tried to get Leigh's hotfix to work. It kept throwing
a syntax error that I couldn't resolve. So I moved on to working on
installing MHonArc. I installed it on happy and started reading the
documentation on getting it to work with majordomo.

I spent the day trying to debug Leigh's modification time hotfix. I
found some problems but it still does an error exit. The most recent
error is that it says that it can't load Moniker.

I started out the day trying to resolve the bug with viewExpired. It
woorks on develop, but not on test and I'm currently not able to
figure out why. I then liooked at Leigh's metadata problems. It turns
out that they were resolved by last week's reapplication of the fix to
STZCatalog. Then I looked at Leigh's hot fix for the modification
date. When I moved the fix to develop and tested it, it threw an
error. I'm currently trying to figure out why.
