Today I wrote and started testing cycles.pl, a script to detect
repeating urls.

Jessica Kim complained about problems with my tozope script. I looked
at her problem and found she wasn't passing a complete url to the
script. I modified the script so that it no longer requires the http
and so that it puts a proper title on each uploaded document. In the
afternoon she had some puzzling problems with the html on a web page
she built. I suggested some changes that fixed half her problem. The
other half is differing type sizes inside and outside a table. This is
due to a "feature" in TableTemplates. So I directed her to others for
a solution. After that I started thinking about cycle, a web spider
to detect repeating urls on the zope site.

I finished debugging exceed.pl, my script that warns me when there are
problems with the Zope process. I put into cron on feline and zps. I
added a list of stop words to searchterms.pl, so it doesn't report
common words like "the". I also added a stemming subroutine, but I
didn't like the results, so I yanked it.

I moved the STLogo link change (CNSHD219969) and the WebSearch port #
bug fix (CNSHD212577) to production. Then I installed Redhat 7.3 on my
laptop. There was a problem in that the grub bootloader created by the
install did not include Windows, so I had to modify the grub
configuration file. I looked at the org/ess permissions bug
(CNSHD211590), but could not duplicate the problem. I'll try to work
it from home. I also debugged on my big-brotherish script, exceed. It
works, but I'll have to change the tests that determines when it
alerts. me.

I installed the localDisplaymethod fix on production this
morning. Then I modifified, documented, and delivered tozope.pl to
Jessica Kim, the latest in a series of scripts for batch uploading
files to Zope. The previous version of the script removed all metadata
editing from addstis. This version puts default metadata back in. The
next version will allow setting metadata values somehow.

Mozilla kept crashing on me and what is worse losing my
configuration. After this happened for the thirs time, I downloaded
the latest nightly build from Mozilla. To
cheer myself up after having to set up Mozilla yet again, I downloaded
the cool Orbit theme.

Today I wrote a message to Jessica about the new "privileged"
role. Then I looked up all the old Zope calls and nagged people about
them. This resulted in some software changes, which I moved to test.

Today was a short day, I was out this morning. I created a new Zope
account for Warren Hack. I moved the localDisplayMethod fix to test
(8083) along with the Metrics folder. I tested the localDisplayMethod
fix and found that it worked. I made small changes to the Remedy
Schedule worksheet, converted it to html and uploaded it to the
project wiki. About then, my web client (Mozilla) crashed and wouldn't
recognize my preferences when I started up again. So I spent the next
hour configuring Mozilla's browser and mail program.

Today I moved Harry's metadata form fix and Jim's isViewable mod into
production. I also investigated complaints by Gary Truslow about
problems with the 8082 version of the ESS folders. And I did a revised
schedule for the Remedy rework project.

Perl 5.8 is using a new hashing
algorithm. I know this
marks me as terminally geeky, but I look at hash algorithms the way
some guys look at new sports cars.

I did some piddly Zope administration stuff, but about the only thing
I accomplished was testing Jim's modification to the isViewable
method. But because I got in late and donated blood, it was a short
day.

A company called Random Factory is bundling astronomical software for
Linux and selling it on a
CD. This includes software
I've written while working for STSDAS.

Today I created a majordomo list for Zope alerts. I redid the workflow
diagrams for Remedy. I tweeked the searchterms script and put it in
cron. And I wrote exceed, a Big Brotherish perl script for
checking the status of Zope.
